Position: Mechanical Engineer
Reporting To: Chief Mechanical Engineer
Description/Responsibilites
The successful candidate will be qualified to Degree level (or equivalent) and, after a suitable period of
training, be capable of assuming responsibility for all relevant technical issues that may arise during the
design, manufacturing and testing of the product.
The following responsibilities of the position are intended as the main areas of responsibility and control,
but are not considered to be exhaustive. The position should also be considered to cover any reasonable
request or requirement to ensure the smooth running of the Company.

To undertake mechanical design analysis in order to prove the integrity of the Company’s product range. This will involve the use of in-house design software and finite element modelling.

To support the Application Design Draughtsmen in the modification of existing designs and the production of new designs.

To support the Sales Department as required. This may entail travelling to meetings with customers and the timely provision of information for quotation purposes.

To assist in the evaluation of technical problems with the installed product base. This may include travel to site for the investigation of specific problems.

To recommend improvements to the product range, design rules and software and to implement new design rules and software, where appropriate.

To be involved with an extensive ongoing programme of product development.

To develop expertise in rotor dynamics and vibration analysis using the latest design tools and test hardware.

To ensure that the principles of design for manufacture and value engineering are incorporated in the design process.

To keep abreast of developments in materials and technology and ensure that they are duly considered in the design process.

To gain an understanding of the electrical design process.

There will be a need to gain experience in the use of proprietary software packages such as ANSYS, Pro Engineer, Pro Mechanica and ME10.

Carry out any other tasks that may be requested from time to time in order to facilitate the efficient operation of the Department and profitable processing of customers’ orders.
