Position: Electrical Design Engineer
Reporting To: Chief Electrical Engineer

ATB - Technology in Motion

Description/Responsibilites
The successful candidate will be qualified to Degree level (or equivalent) and, after a suitable period of training, be capable of assuming responsibility for all relevant technical issues that may arise during the design, manufacturing and testing of the product that they have designed and instructed.

The typical responsibilities of an Electrical Design Engineer are summarised below, however these are not exhaustive or exclusive. The applicant may therefore be reasonably requested from time to time to carry out other duties that facilitate the smooth running of the Company.

Whilst experience in the field of electrical machine design is desirable, suitable training (both in house and, where appropriate, external) will be given as necessary in order to achieve and maintain the required standards. Knowledge of (or an interest in) other related disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, electronics or computing would be a considerable advantage.

Membership of a Professional Organisation (e.g. IET) will be encouraged, the ultimate objective being to attain Chartered status.

The Electrical Design Engineer will, after a suitable period of training, be capable of assuming responsibility for all relevant technical issues that may arise during the design, manufacturing and testing of the product that they have designed and instructed.

  2. Active participation in the ongoing design and development of the product range, giving technical instructions or advice to other departments including Manufacturing and Test.
  3. Adopting value-engineering principles, design for manufacture and concurrent engineering techniques in product development.
  4. Closely supporting Applications Design Draughtsmen in the modification of existing production designs and the preparation of new designs.
  5. Giving technical support as required to the Sales Department. This may occasionally include travelling to meetings with the customer and providing timely information for quotation purposes.
  6. Assisting in the evaluation of technical problems with the installed product base. This may occasionally include travelling to site for specific investigations.
  7. Recommending improvements to the product design rules and software, also facilitating the implementation of these where appropriate.
  8. Assisting in the preparation of, or preparing technical reports and/or presentations.
  9. Considering the mechanical design process and its interaction with electrical design in order to optimise product performance.
  10. Ensuring that Health and Safety Procedures are followed.
